Making a Difference Workshop: IEEE-USA’s New Online Career Manager System

BY Scott Grayson Posted: 1 Sep 2012

Career management is simply the ongoing process of deliberately seeking, creating and capitalizing on opportunities to increase one’s ability, contribution, work/life balance, impact and fulfillment.

IEEE-USA is now offering the Making a Difference Workshop--a new Career Management (CBT)--in partnership with Targeted Learning, a research-grounded training and consulting firm. Targeted Learning has been providing this workshop to top international companies.

“I wish I had learned these skills five or ten years ago. It is particularly relevant in today’s fluid business environment,” an engineer from Boeing commented. And a program manager from Fairchild Semiconductor noted:  “This workshop was outstanding. The models and tools would empower anyone to achieve greater contribution and career fulfillment.”

The Making a Difference online workshop is divided into to six lessons, each focusing on a specific career aspect. For example, Lesson One focuses on Strategies for Achieving and Maintaining Career Vitality, and Lesson Two with Achieving Career Vitality through Greater Self-Knowledge. Each of the six interactive lessons provides learning through question/answers, case studies, pop quizzes, an analysis of your results, and action plans you can use to start mastering your career. At the conclusion of this online workshop, you will be able to contribute in making a greater difference at work, and achieve more of your professional and personal goals.

The Making a Difference Approach

Research has clearly demonstrated that the alignment of individual talents, with the business needs of the organization, is critical to employee retention and marketplace success. Our experience also confirms that the individual is in the best position to make sure this alignment happens. The ideas and tools in this interactive online workshop will help you do just that.

This online workshop is essential for:

Individuals to remain motivated and continue learning, when opportunities to a new job are limited.

Individuals to create an effective career plan, and get the support they need to implement it.

IEEE-USA believes that this online workshop will help IEEE members learn how to increase job satisfaction, become and remain a top performer, maximize employability, and get the support needed to achieve career goals.
