Final 2016 Webinars Look at Recent Events in Congress, Perfectionism

By Diana Librizzi

IEEE-USA will close out the 2016 webinar slate by welcoming new speaker, Nancy Martin, a crowd favorite at this past summer’s inaugural Future Leaders Forum, and presenting the final Legislative Update of the year.

On Thursday, 1 December, IEEE-USA’s Government Relations Director, Russ Harrison, will present his final 2016 monthly IEEE-USA Legislative Update. Harrison will brief attendees on what Congress is doing for, and to, our profession. The Update series will be back in 2017, and every month, IEEE members can stay up to date on recent events in Washington that affect them.

Manager of Technical Development for GE’s GlobaI Research Center, Nancy Martin, will present IEEE-USA’s last webinar of the year, Pitfalls of a Perfect Life, and Advantages of Letting Go, on Thursday, 8 December, at 2:00 pm, EST. Martin spoke at IEEE-USA’s recent Future Leaders Forum, and was a crowd favorite, hailed by some as a highlight of the conference.

Perfectionism served many of us well while we grew up. It allowed us to go to the best schools and get the best jobs. Yet, once we are in the “real” world, perfectionism often leads us to a life of working too hard, enjoying too little, and feeling like nothing is ever good enough. Add to that, “perfect” is now measured in more subjective ways (we don’t take tests at work), and you can find yourself working more than ever before. In this session, Martin will talk about the pitfalls of a perfect life, and the advantages of letting go.
