More IEEE-USA Career and Membership Services Programs (Part 2)

By Brendan Godfrey and Amritesh Rai

IEEE-USA has more programs of interest to early career technology professionals! This short follow-up article to Part 1, on career programs for students and YPs, looks at independent consultant services, the IEEE-USA Salary Service, and discounts on Fundamentals Engineering (FE) exam and Professional (PE) exam study materials. You can find information on all these products and much more at ieeeusa.org.

For Consultants

IEEE Young Professionals can join the IEEE Consultants Network to better understand how to become an independent consultant or take on gig work. Network subscribers receive the quarterly IEEE-USA Consultants Newsletter, which features news and stories about consulting, technology innovations for consultants, and legislative developments that affect consultants and other independent workers. Subscribers also receive timely updates on IEEE-USA’s consulting webinars and other hot-button consulting issues. The best part of this service is that YPs can learn about what is it like working for yourself and issues that may arise, all while gaining a better sense of whether or not independent consulting is a suitable career path for you.

Know Your Value

The importance of knowing your value to your current employer or a prospective employer can’t be overstated — especially when it comes to negotiating a fair compensation package and ultimately being able to meet your personal financial goals. The IEEE-USA Salary Service is a comprehensive salary service tool that can be used by both individuals and companies/employers.

Salary Service users can choose between two salary calculators — one that employs a regression model, and another that allows users to select individual filters, and which calculates compensation directly from the salary survey’s raw data. By using this calculator, an individual can determine the average salary of someone with a particular skill set, anywhere in the country. Members tell us that the analysis from this calculator is more accurate than other tools offered by big corporations. The best part is IEEE YPs can access our salary calculator free of charge by participating in our annual IEEE-USA Salary Survey — which is open now!

PE/FE Exam Takers

In 2023, IEEE-USA partnered with PPI (a Kaplan Company) to provide discounts on study materials for the Fundamentals Engineering (FE) Exam and the Professional Engineering (PE) Exam. IEEE-USA understands that studying for both exams can be very expensive. Our partnership with PPI is designed to alleviate some of that expense.

We hope that YPs have found this post and the previous one useful and will sample IEEE-USA’s products and services. IEEE-USA would like to enhance the value of its products, programs and services for YPs. If you have any comments or suggestions on how to improve our YP offerings, please send them to cms@ieeeusa.org.
